Join Stratford Concert Choir
The Stratford Concert Choir is an auditioned choir. We perform a minimum of three concerts per season in December, March, and May. We also have a yearly fee of $200 ($25 for student) regardless of what date you may start with the choir.
Our next auditions are May 27 and June 10. Further dates in August and September will be announced soon.
SCC is for singers who:

seek a fulfilling choral experience possess music reading skills, a good ear, and the ability to blend

actively participate in promotion, fundraising, tickets sales, etc.

Members of SCC are independent learners, conscientious and prepared, team players, able to take and follow direction.

Rehearsals

Our rehearsals take place weekly on Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Avondale United church in Stratford.

Focus during rehearsals is placed on ensemble, intonation, blend, style, vocal technique, and musicality.
Auditions
Auditions are held in May and August by appointment.
What does the audition entail?
1. A solo piece.
a) Bring something prepared—any piece of music with which you are comfortable, a cappella or with piano accompaniment.
b) Bring an extra copy of the music for the accompanist.
2. A few music exercises.
a) singing some scales to check your range.
b) clapping some rhythms.
c) singing back a short melody.
d) sight-reading a short excerpt.
3. An assigned piece to demonstrate your ability to learn and prepare music on your own.
a) Please note that this is an unpublished work, not available anywhere online.
4. A friendly chat with the Artistic Director.
5. An interview to go over choir information, expectations, and confirm mutual compatibility.
Attention at the audition is given to your level of preparedness, rhythmic precision, intonation, and the ability to adapt to directions from the conductor.
